White Lies have been confirmed as the first support act to play alongside Kings of Leon at St. James' Park this summer

White Lies have been confirmed as the first support act to play alongside Kings of Leon at their only UK stadium concert, which is taking place at St. James' Park this summer.

Newcastle United has also announced that additional standing tickets are now available and are on sale now, after the initial allocation of standing tickets sold out in record time.

White Lies have recently released their third album Big TV, which debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart.

The band has recently played a headline show at London Wembley Arena, in addition to headline performances at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend and the NME Awards Tour.

White Lies have featured on multiple 'ones to watch' polls, including BBC's Sound of 2009 and the BRITs Critics' Choice Award. They also won Q Awards' Best New Band category and the MOJO Breakthrough Award.

Newcastle United's finance director John Irving said: "We are delighted to add White Lies to the Kings of Leon line up.

"Both bands are very well respected in the music industry and we are delighted to welcome them to St. James' Park. We will be announcing more supports acts soon."

Speaking of the announcement regarding additional standing tickets, Irving said: "The initial allocation of standing tickets sold so well that we were keen to explore the possibility of increasing the capacity of tickets on the pitch.

"We were mindful that we wanted everyone to enjoy their experience at St. James' Park, and not overcrowd the area, and with some careful planning we were able to increase the amount available.

"These tickets are now on sale, however only a limited amount are available so I'd recommend that people purchase soon to avoid disappointment.

"We are keen to establish St. James' Park as a premier venue to see world class acts in the North-East and look forward to welcoming Kings of Leon and White Lies to the city. We very much hope the show will be the first of many events held at the stadium in years to come."

Tickets for Kings of Leon and special guests are now on general sale priced from £55 and can be bought at www.nufc.co.uk/concerts or by calling 0871 220 0260.

Hospitality packages are also now on sale, priced from £160 + VAT per person. The packages include premium seats at the show, a pre-match meal and hospitality bar facilities. Hospitality can be booked by calling 0191 201 8444 or emailing [email protected].

Kings of Leon, the multi Grammy and Brit award-winning Tennessee rockers, released their sixth album Mechanical Bull in September, scoring their fourth number one album in the UK. The album has just received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album of 2013.
