'We Need You, Fans,' Says Defender

Written by Newcastle Utd

Danny Simpson has made an impassioned plea to the supporters to fill St. James' Park against Wigan on Monday and admitted: "We need the fans behind us"

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Danny Simpson has made an impassioned plea to the Club's fans to pack St. James' Park and cheer them on to a much-needed win against Wigan on Monday night.

Wednesday night's harsh defeat at Stoke was a fourth straight league loss but the Toon Army stayed with the players all the way at the Britannia Stadium and showed their appreciation for a much-improved display compared to recent weeks.

Newcastle are offering tickets starting from as little as £5 for juniors and £15 for adults for the 8pm kick-off against the Latics, who are currently level on points with the Magpies, and Simpson knows that the backing of the home fans could give United the edge.

"It's a massive game," popular defender Simpson told nufc.co.uk. "We're at home and we need the fans behind us.

"We know they want to see the team winning but more than ever we need them behind us on Monday night because we want to make it tough for Wigan.

"We don't want them to come to St. James' and make it easy for them; if we perform like we we did at Stoke on Wednesday and the fans get behind us then I'm sure we'll get the win that we're due."

Tickets are available to buy from the Box Office or online here and Simpson begged: "Just pack it out, please, and get behind us. People saw the effort and the way we performed in midweek and I'm sure that's what they want from us.

"They want to see the players put 100 per cent in and if they can get behind us on Monday they'll get 100 per cent out of every single one of us and hopefully come the final whistle we'll all be going home with a little bit of a smile on our face - and three points."
