Van The Man For Jonas

Argentine says left-flank partner Patrick has big future ahead of him

By Craig Hope

DEPRIVED of left-flank accomplice Jose Enrique because of injury, some may have expected the performances of Jonas Gutierrez to dip in the absence of his Spanish-speaking comrade.

United boss Chris Hughton quickly sought remedy for Enrique's hamstring exile with the January recruitment of Chelsea's Dutch left-back Patrick van Aanholt.

And so it has proved that the 19-year-old's introduction has been a successful one - just ask Gutierrez; the Argentine having arguably enjoyed his best period in black and white during recent weeks.

"Patrick has done very, very well and I think he has a big future in the game," said the Buenos-Aries born star when he spoke to nufcTV this week about the on-loan defender with whom he has formed an impressive partnership.

"He is a young player who has come from Chelsea so you know he's going to be a quality player.

"I think he still has to learn the game and the opportunity to play here at Newcastle has been fantastic for him.

"He has to keep on progressing the same way because if he does I think he'll have a big future and will be a top player."

He added: "We had a good understanding very quickly and I have enjoyed playing with him.

"He has been very easy to play with and I think we have done well together."
