Newcastle United have been drawn against Benfica in the Europa League quarter-finals

Newcastle United have been drawn against Benfica in the quarter-final of the Europa League.

The Magpies will travel to Lisbon, and the Estádio da Luz, in the first-leg on Thursday, 4th April, before returning to Tyneside for the second-leg a week later, on Thursday, 11th April.

And it is brand new opposition for United, having never faced the Portuguese outfit in competitive action before.

Newcastle reached the last eight with a dramatic, last-gasp 1-0 victory over Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday night, and have also faced Metalist Kharkiv, Club Brugge, Bordeaux, Maritimo and Atromitos in the competition to date.

The Europa League final will be played at Ajax's Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday, 15th May.
