United Confirm Plans For Sir Bobby's Day

Written by Newcastle Utd

On the fourth anniversary of his death, Newcastle have confirmed plans to celebrate Sir Bobby Robson against SC Braga

Newcastle United have confirmed plans to celebrate legendary former manager Sir Bobby Robson's contribution to football when the Magpies host SC Braga on the National Football Day named in his honour.

Braga make the trip from Portugal, where Sir Bobby excelled as manager of Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto, to St. James' Park on Saturday 10th August (kick-off 6pm).

That day was recently named by the Football Association (FA) as the inaugural Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day, and will celebrate all aspects of the beautiful game from grassroots to professional level and pay tribute to the lifelong dedication and legacy of Sir Bobby, who passed away four years ago today at the age of 76 after bravely battling cancer for the fifth time.

As part of the FA's 150th anniversary celebrations, 150 events focusing on all aspects of the game will be taking place across the country.

The Club will have a presence at an FA coaching clinic and tournament at the Sir Bobby Robson Football Centre in Sacriston on the morning of Saturday 10th August, before fans have the chance to raise money for two fantastic causes - the Newcastle United Foundation and Sacriston Community Football Club, which is located close to Sir Bobby's birthplace.

The Newcastle United Foundation, which runs a thriving grassroots coaching programme of its own for thousands of children each year, is providing match tickets for Sacriston and will be inviting ten of its youngsters onto the pitch at half-time for a special penalty shoot-out.

A matchday lottery will also be in operation to raise funds for both worthy causes, while a number of Mascot Experience packages remain available for any fan to purchase - giving local children the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run out onto the pitch alongside their heroes.

Newcastle United's players, meanwhile, have pledged to donate their match-worn strips to an exclusive online auction following the game, giving supporters the chance to bid for their favourite player's 2013/14 home shirts.

A special matchday programme is also being produced for the fixture against SC Braga, paying homage to the life and times of Sir Bobby and his links to Portuguese football.

To book tickets for Newcastle United against SC Braga on Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day, please visit www.nufc.co.uk/tickets, call the Box Office on 0844 372 1892 or visit the Box Office in the stadium's Club Store.

To secure a children's Mascot Experience place or to find out more about what promises to be a memorable day for your son or daughter at St. James' Park, please call 0844 372 1892 (opt. 4, ext, 8451) or email [email protected] by Friday 2nd August.

Places for this one-off experience are available for £350 and all proceeds go to Newcastle United Foundation (Registered Charity Number 1124896) and Sacriston Community Football Club.
