Under-21s Are Goodison Bound

Written by Newcastle Utd

Newcastle's second-string will play their Barclays Under-21 Premier League play-off match against Everton at Goodison Park next week

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

It has been confirmed that Newcastle United under-21s' reward for winning the Barclays Premier Under-21 League Tier Two will be a trip to Goodison Park next week.

Willie Donachie and Peter Beardsley's side will take on Everton at their famous stadium on Tuesday, 7th May with a 7pm kick-off.

Everton won Tier One and their under-21 boss Alan Stubbs was at Whitley Park on Friday night to see the Magpies clinch their divisional title despite a 2-1 loss to Bolton.

The winners of Tuesday's match will then face Elite Group champions Tottenham in North London in the play-off semi-finals.

For Donachie, it will be a return to one of his old stomping grounds - he was Joe Royle's assistant when the Toffees won the FA Cup in 1995.

And Beardsley is also no stranger to Goodison Park, having spent two seasons as a player with the Merseysiders between 1991 and 1993.
