Turkish Delight For Barlaser

Written by Newcastle Utd

Daniel Barlaser featured as Turkey's under-17s beat Slovakia on Sunday to win the La Manga Tournament in Spain

A 4-1 win over Slovakia on Sunday saw Turkey's under-17s win the La Manga Tournament in Spain.

Newcastle winger Daniel Barlaser came on as a half-time substitute as Hakan Tecimer's side won their third and final game of the competition.

He had also featured in their draw with Sweden, when he came from the bench, before starting a 2-0 victory over Norway.

Last year, Barlaser helped Turkey's under-16s to win the Montaigu Tournament in France while he also figured for the under-17s as they reached the final of the Mercedes-Benz Aegean Cup just over a year ago.

The former Swalwell Juniors player was the only British-based player in the squad.

Although he was born in Gateshead, Barlaser's father, Sener, is Turkish and the 17-year-old will now return to Tyneside with a spring in his step ahead of next weekend's FA Youth Cup fifth round tie at Derby.
