Tozer Goes Out On Loan

United's young defender heads out on a temporary one-month deal to League Two side

By Dan King

Young defender Ben Tozer has headed from Newcastle United to Northampton Town on a one-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old, who made one league appearance for The Magpies last season, has headed to the League Two side for some first-team experience, having been pushed further down the pecking order by the arrival of Sol Campbell in recent weeks.

Plymouth-born Tozer joined United from Swindon Town in January 2008, signing a four-and-a-half year deal, and made his debut in the Carling Cup defeat to Peterborough last season before appearing in the 2-1 Championship victory over Doncaster last October. He also appeared on the bench on a handful of occasions.

Northampton, nicknamed The Cobblers, are currently 17th in their division.

Tozer could make his debut against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night. They play The Reds in the Carling Cup Third Round.
