Tiote Picks Up January Award

Written by Newcastle Utd

Cheick Tiote has been voted the Magpies' Wonga Player of the Month for January

Cheick Tiote has been voted the Magpies' Wonga Player of the Month for January.

The Ivorian enforcer was outstanding during a topsy-turvy month which saw defeats against West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff and Manchester City, but an impressive victory away at West Ham and a point at Norwich.

Tiote netted what should have been his second goal in the famous black and white stripes with a stunning long-range effort against Man City, only to see it harshly ruled out by an assistant referee's flag.

But United supporters have still voted the 27-year-old as the month's star player.

Rachel Quinn was lucky enough to present Tiote with the Wonga trophy after voting on Wonga's Newcastle United fan site.

She was absolutely delighted to meet her hero and was given a Wonga Player of the Month pennant signed by the midfielder as a souvenir of her experience. Rachel and mum Karen also got to watch the first team train ahead of Saturday's trip to Hull.

Make sure you check http://www.wongafootball.com/nufc/vote for the February Player of the Month vote, which will be going live on Monday.

Wonga are running competitions every month throughout the season so check the Wonga Football fan hub regularly for your chance to win some great prizes - http://www.wongafootball.com/nufc
