Tiote Demands Derby Reaction

Written by Newcastle Utd

With two home games in a week, Cheick Tiote knows that Newcastle can go some way to banishing their derby disappointment against Manchester City and Chelsea

Stand-in skipper Cheick Tiote has called on his team-mates to bounce back from their derby day disappointment as they take on two of the Barclays Premier League title favourites in the space of a week.

Newcastle, who lost to local rivals Sunderland at the weekend, host Manchester City in the Capital One Cup fourth round on Wednesday before welcoming Chelsea to St. James' Park on Saturday.

And although it will take a long time before Sunday's defeat at the Stadium of Light is forgotten by the players or the fans, Tiote knows that the mood on Tyneside could be lifted dramatically over the next few days.

Victory against Manuel Pellegrini's men in midweek would leave the Magpies just two rounds away from a Wembley final, while last season's thrilling success over Chelsea was one of the highlights of last season and a repeat performance would be similarly welcome.

Speaking to nufcTV, Tiote insisted that Newcastle did not deserve to lose to Fabio Borini's stunning late goal on Sunday but demanded an instant response.

"Everyone is hurting," the Ivorian midfielder said. "We have to just keep going and I think the next game is going to be better.

"I think it's going to be also a tough game but we need to be ready for that.

"It's not going to be an easy game and after that we've got Chelsea at home.

"They're two big, tough games for us but that's football.

"We are Newcastle so we need to do everything right and try to win the next game."
