Steven Taylor today celebrates ten years as a Newcastle United first team player

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Steven Taylor today (Tuesday, 25th March) celebrates ten years as a Newcastle United first team player.

The homegrown defender was handed his Magpies' debut a decade ago by Sir Bobby Robson, as a substitute in a UEFA Cup fourth round victory away at Real Mallorca.

Wearing the number 58 shirt, a then 18-year-old Taylor played the final nine minutes at the Son Moix stadium, having replaced Andy O'Brien at right-back.

And it was the start of a journey which has seen the Whitley Bay-raised star make 243 appearances, scoring 13 goals, along with England Under-21 and England B honours.

Ten years at one club is a remarkable achievement and one that should be celebrated.

So, tonight's official matchday programme against Everton will recognise Taylor's outstanding service to the famous black and white striped shirt.

As well as an exclusive, in-depth chat with the centre-back, there are also interviews with staff members and teammates who have been with Taylor every step of the way since that night in Mallorca.

We will also be using our relaunched Twitter account @NUFC and the hashtag #TenYearsofTayls to publish photos of Taylor's United career along with snippets of some of the tributes that will feature.

Tuesday night's matchday programme will be on sale around St. James' Park this evening, or can be ordered online by clicking here.
