Taylor Helping Haris On Road To Recovery

Written by Newcastle Utd

Ryan Taylor has told nufc.co.uk how he and Haris Vuckic are working together as they both battle back from long-term knee injuries

Ryan Taylor has revealed how he is helping fellow injury victim Haris Vuckic on the road to recovery - and has given Alan Pardew a boost by insisting that his own comeback is progressing well.

The fans' favourite suffered a serious knee injury in the Europa League fourth qualifying round second leg match against Atromitos at the end of August, and Slovenian youngster Vuckic was ruled out for the season after a similar setback in an under-21 match against Aston Villa last month.

Vuckic has endured plenty of misfortune already in his young career and Taylor, who has battled back from more than his fair share of bad injuries in the past, knows that he's in an ideal position to guide his team-mate along the path to his return. And, in an exclusive catch-up at the Magpies' training ground, he told nufc.co.uk that he intends to do exactly that.

"He's asking questions on a daily basis because he's probably feeling what I was feeling a few weeks ago," the 28-year-old Merseysider explained.

"You do get some weird feelings; you don't doubt that you'll get back but you always think 'what if it's not the same?' and things like that creep into your mind.

"But with the right help, he's a young lad and the good thing for him is he's got a lot of time. I've been doing some of my rehab with him so hopefully I can be a big help for him coming back - just as he can be for me."

Taylor is progressing well in his own return and recently resumed running with the help of a state-of-the-art anti-gravity treadmill at the club's Benton base.

And he said: "Everything's on track - nothing's gone wrong and I've had no setbacks so everything's okay.

"I've just got to stay positive. I've dealt with it now; I know it's a long injury but at the same time I've got to be quite buzzing around the place and I've got a good set of lads to work with so at the minute it's all going well.

"It's just been a case of letting it heal. They've done a lot of work so I have to let it heal and then rebuild but at the same time the strength and conditioning work kicks in after about three months.

"But in the first few weeks it's been about getting the movement back, getting the range of movement and keeping muscle. I've been swimming a lot as well as cycling and it's going well."
