Tavernier Loaned To Cumbrians

Written by Newcastle Utd

Promising right-back James Tavernier has joined League One Carlisle United on loan from Newcastle

By Dan King - Newcastle United Communications Officer

Magpies defender James Tavernier has joined Carlisle United on an initial one-month loan.

Bradford-born Tavernier spent three months with Gateshead last season and impressed enough with the Blue Square Bet Premier outfit for Alan Pardew to recall him early.

He ended last season in the first-team squad having clearly benefitted from his time at the International Stadium, and the club hope that playing in League One will allow him to develop even further.

Tavernier, 19, went with the senior party to the United States last month for their pre-season tour, and figured in all three games.

He played against Accrington in the Carling Cup second round last season, having made his debut in the same competition against Peterborough in the previous campaign.

Carlisle are away to Bury in their next game on Saturday - and he'll come head-to-head with Toon team-mate Michael Richardson when The Cumbrians travel to Leyton Orient on August 27.
