Success For Young Lions Armstrong and Woodman

Adam Armstrong and Freddie Woodman enjoyed international success on Tuesday as their England side booked their place at the European Under-19 Championships this summer with victory over Spain.

Goalkeeper Woodman played the full 90 minutes and recorded a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory at the Estadio Municipal in Spain, while forward Armstrong - currently on loan at Coventry City - bagged the Young Lions' second on 66 minutes after coming off the bench in place of Patrick Roberts.

The result means Keith Downing's side will now compete at the finals in Germany in July.

Meanwhile, Moussa Sissoko's France also recorded a victory, beating Russia 4-2 in a friendly at the Stade de France.

The United midfielder replaced Juventus' Paul Pogba with just over 20 minutes remaining as Didier Deschamps' men followed on from last week's win over Holland with another good result, which was sealed thanks to goals from N'Golo Kante, Andre-Pierre Gignac, Dimitri Payet and Kingsley Coman.

Georginio Wijnaldum's Netherlands, though, bounced back from their defeat to France with a 2-1 friendly win over England at Wembley.

The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Danny Blind's outfit recovered from a goal down to beat the Three Lions, with both their equaliser and their winning goal - which was scored by substitute Luciano Narsingh - arriving in the second half.

Striker Aleksandar Mitrovic started for Serbia as they beat Estonia 1-0 in Tallinn thanks to a goal from Manchester City's Aleksandar Kolarov.

But Mitrovic didn't quite complete the full match, as he was substituted in added time at the end of the game.

The three players involved in African Cup of Nations qualfiers enjoyed mainly positive evenings, with Chancel Mbemba's DR Congo securing a 2-0 away victory at Angola in Group B.

Henri Saivet, too, was victorious, as his Senegal team beat Niger 2-1 away from home in Group K.

On-loan frontman Seydou Doubia's Ivory Coast, though, could only manage a 1-1 draw when the reigning African Cup of Nations winners travelled to Sudan in Group I.

Young centre half Lubo Satka, who is currently on loan at League Two's York City, was an unused substitute in Slovakia under-21s' emphatic 5-0 European Under-21 Championship qualifying win over their Turkish counterparts in Myjava.
