Sub Sammy Inspires England Under-21s

Sammy Ameobi made another appearance for England Under-21s on Monday night in Finland

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Sammy Ameobi stepped off the bench to help ten-man England Under-21s come from behind to record a 1-1 draw away in Finland on Monday night.

The Magpies' forward was a 58th-minute substitute at the Tampere Stadium, replacing Norwich wide man Nathan Redmond, as the Young Lions trailed to Moshtagh Yaghoubi's stunning early free-kick.

Within nine minutes of Ameobi's introduction England were level, as Harry Kane and Wilfred Zaha combined to set-up West Brom's Saido Berahino, who finished from close range

Gareth Southgate's side were dealt a blow with a late red card shown to captain Andre Wisdom, following an altercation with Tim Väyrynen, but they held firm for an encouraging point in group one of the European Championships qualifying campaign.
