SECOND HALF UPDATES
90+4mins: After a cross from Anita sails out of play, Jones blows for full time. Pieters' fluke goal on the stroke of half time proved crucial as Newcastle lost for the fourth successive game. Click here for a match report.
90mins: There will be a minimum of four minutes of stoppage time.
89mins: Yanga-Mbiwa shanks wide from 25 yards.
87mins: Jonathan Walters is on for Arnautovic.
86mins: Ameobi heads wide from Tiote's ball into the box.
85mins: Armstrong finds Ameobi on the left-hand side of the box and the striker dinks the ball towards the far post where the diminutive Anita is unable to divert his header goalwards.
75mins: Coloccini is booked for a foul on Arnautovic. Adam's free kick is too high.
74mins: Ben Arfa's first touch sees him lose the ball and Stoke break through Arnautovic, whose cutback is side-footed wide by Adam.
73mins: Hatem Ben Arfa and Adam Armstrong are introduced for Newcastle; Gosling and Cisse make way.
66mins: Charlie Adam - wearing a protective mask after picking up a facial injury in training during the week - replaces Ireland.
63mins: Cisse's inviting delivery falls perfectly for Stoke-born Williamson, still looking for his first Newcastle goal, but the defender's half-volley is blocked. Newcastle are now playing with four at the back - Yanga-Mbiwa is at right-back - with Anita on the right-hand side of midfield and Gouffran on the left.
61mins: Cameron drives over a wonderful ball for Crouch, who meets it with a diving header but puts it too close to Krul who saves. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is on for Steven Taylor, which may mean a change in formation.
59mins: A clever free kick from Arnautovic is slid to Stephen Ireland but the Irishman's shot is blocked by Tiote before the flag goes up for offside.
57mins: Now Arnautovic has a shot but he goes for placement rather than power and his side-footed effort from 22 yards is comfortable for Krul.
52mins: Arnautovic has been Stoke's dangerman and from his left-wing cross, Crouch heads over when he really should have scored.
49mins: Mike Williamson heads back across goal and Cisse goes for a snapshot but his effort loops over the bar.
46mins: Cisse and Ameobi get the second half started, with Newcastle now kicking towards their supporters behind the goal.
FIRST HALF UPDATES
45+1mins: Ameobi sends over a decent cross which just evades Gosling and Dummett at the far post. Seconds later, Jones blows for half time and Newcastle trail to a fortuitious cross-cum-shot having played well for the most part. Click here for a half time report.
45mins: There will be one minute of stoppage time.
44mins: Cheick Tiote tries his luck from distance as United look for an instant reply but Asmir Begovic is down quickly to save.
42mins - STOKE CITY GOAL (1-0): The hosts take the lead through a complete fluke. Arnautovic plays the ball out to Erik Pieters on the left and the Dutchman tries to cross it in but instead it flies off his boot and sails towards goal, looping over the head of his fellow countryman and friend Krul.
29mins: Arnautovic cuts the ball back from the Stoke left to Peter Odemwingie, who has been in decent form of late but totally misses the ball as he goes to shoot from 12 yards or so.
27mins: Great defending from Fabricio Coloccini denies Steven Nzonzi - the midfielder had plenty to aim at as the ball fell to him on the edge of the box but the Magpies skipper threw himself in the way to deflect it over for a corner, which United deal with well.
24mins: Gouffran finds Dummett on the left and the full-back shows great desire to hold off two challenges and poke the ball towards Cisse in the box. The striker is going away from goal as Geoff Cameron appears to bring him down but referee Mike Jones keeps his arms behind his back - no penalty.
18mins: Papiss Cisse floats a lovely pass from the right towards Dummett, whose first touch in an advanced position is perfect and sets him up for a shot on goal. He elects to pass to Ameobi instead, though, and the striker's effort is blocked.
17mins: Ameobi scuffs wide from 20 yards as the Stoke defence were slow to close him down. United look pretty compact so far with their new 5-3-2 formation.
11mins: A good move from Newcastle almost pays dividends. Paul Dummett plays the ball towards Shola Ameobi, who is able to work it into the path of Dan Gosling. The midfielder finds the run of Vurnon Anita, surging forward from right-back, and then gets on the end of Ameobi's flick from the Dutchman's cross but scoops just over the bar - although the flag was up against the ex-Everton man anyway.
10mins: After a low-key opening ten minutes, Peter Crouch hits the woodwork for Stoke. Marko Arnautovic crosses from the left and the 6ft 7ins Crouch gets up above everybody to glance a header against the post from eight yards out. Tim Krul didn't even get a chance to move.
1min: Today's game kicks off at 3.07pm after a minute's silence to mark the 25th anniversary of the weekend of the Hillsborough disaster. The home side get the game started, kicking towards the Marstons Pedigree Stand which houses almost 3,000 Newcastle fans.
