Former Magpies favourite Nolberto Solano has left his first managerial role with Peruvian side Universitario after just over six months.
The popular midfielder, who had two spells at St. James' Park, took over at the 80,000 capacity Estadio Monumental last June with the club in administration and struggling at the wrong end of the Primera Division table.
But despite leading the Lima-based outfit away from the relegation zone he was relieved of his duties last week, just a few days short of his 38th birthday.
Adopted Geordie Solano first came to Newcastle from Boca Juniors in 1998, staying for six years before moving to Aston Villa in 2004. But he returned 18 months later before departing for West Ham in 2007.
Ending his playing career at Hartlepool, he remained a regular visitor to Tyneside before heading to Peru to begin his new life as a manager.
He is one of two ex-Newcastle midfielder to lose their job in recent days - Ian Bogie was dismissed by Gateshead on Monday with the Heed lying 14th in the Blue Square Bet Premier.
