Newcastle's game against champions Manchester City is arguably the pick of the Barclays Premier League's 2014/15 opening weekend fixtures.
The eyes of the nation will be on Manuel Pellegrini's side as they begin the defence of their title at St. James' Park, but the match will also attract a great deal of attention all around the world - nowhere more so than the Spanish Canary Islands.
For the past four seasons, David Silva - who hails from ArguineguÃn, Gran Canaria - has shone for City, winning two league medals and an FA Cup as well as lifting the Capital One Cup last term.
And in August, he could come up against the Magpies' summer signing from CD Tenerife, Ayoze Pérez.
The 20-year-old from Santa Cruz de Tenerife may make his United debut against the Citizens.
Just over two million people live on the Canary Islands, which are near the north west coast of mainland Africa and 62 miles west of the southern border of Morocco.
Barcelona star Pedro and former Spain international Juan Carlos Valerón also come from the region.
The Tyneside weather is a world away from the Canary Islands climate but, speaking to nufcTV, Perez said: "I have been warned but at the end of the day I'm here to play football and I guess the weather is not a problem for that.
"I will get adapted as soon possible and playing football is what I'm here for so it's alright."
