By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Former Newcastle striker Shefki Kuqi has signed for League One Oldham Athletic, having been a free agent since he left St. James' Park in the summer.

Finnish international Kuqi made six substitute appearances for United after joining the club in February, but never got the chance to perform his bellyflop goal celebration for the Toon Army.

Oldham's manager is former Arsenal and Manchester City striker Paul Dickov and he will he hoping his former Blackburn team-mate can help improve the Latics' fortunes after an indifferent start to the campaign.

Dickov told Oldham's official website: "It is fantastic for the other strikers here to have somebody who has played at the highest level.

"Hopefully they will look up to him and learn from him."

Kuqi wasn't the only ex-Magpie on the move as the transfer window closed on Wednesday night.

Scott Parker moved from West Ham to Spurs and Craig Bellamy joined Liverpool from Manchester City.

Jermaine Jenas headed to Aston Villa on loan from Spurs while Patrick van Aanholt, who enjoyed a successful spell at St. James' in 2009/10, completed a loan move from Chelsea to the other Latics, Wigan.
