Satka's Italian Job

Written by Newcastle Utd

Teenage defender Lubo Satka helped Slovakia's under-19 side gain a draw in a friendly against Italy

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Lubo Satka played the full 90 minutes for Slovakia under-19s as they drew 1-1 against Italy on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old defender from Ilava - who also played in a 1-1 draw against Malaysia's under-23 side on Friday - started at centre-half in Castelfranco Veneto.

"It was a good game," he told nufc.co.uk. "The Italians were good and it was a test but the pitch made things difficult for both teams."

Following the friendly fixture, Satka will fly back to Tyneside on Thursday ahead of Monday's Barclays Premier Under-21 League fixture against Stoke.

Although United's senior stars have now all headed back to Newcastle following the international break, a handful of youngsters are still on duty for their countries.

Alex Gilliead and Freddie Woodman are part of the England under-17 squad which must beat Slovenia on Friday to qualify for the European Championship finals.

Meanwhile Adam Armstrong and Kyle Cameron (England under-16s) and Daniel Barlaser (Turkey under-16s) are involved in the Montaigu Tournament in France.
