Santon Back In Italy Squad

Written by Newcastle Utd

Davide Santon has been called up for the full Italian national side following his impressive start to the campaign for Newcastle

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Davide Santon's impressive displays for Newcastle United have been rewarded with a recall to the Italy squad.

The Portomaggiore-born 21-year-old has seven caps for the Azzurri having made his debut in 2009, but hasn't played for his country since March 2011 - shortly before his move to St. James' Park that summer.

However, he's been one of Alan Pardew's star performers in the Barclays Premier League and has now been selected for Cesare Prandelli's squad for next week's friendly against France.

Italy take on Les Bleus in Parma on Wednesday, 14th November and Santon could come face-to-face with his club colleague Yohan Cabaye, who is in the France squad.

Ex-Inter Milan defender Santon has made 12 appearances in all competitions so far for United this season.
