Sammy Selected For Saints

Written by Newcastle Utd

Sammy Ameobi will make his comeback from injury against Southampton's under-21 side on Friday night

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Sammy Ameobi will give Alan Pardew a timely fitness boost by making his return to action when the Reserves take on Southampton on Friday night.

The Newcastle boss has been hit by injuries to the likes of Fabricio ColocciniTim Krul, Danny Simpson, Cheick Tiote, Shola Ameobi and James Perch in recent weeks but the younger Ameobi's comeback from a hamstring injury finally offers some positive news from the treatment room.

England under-21 international Ameobi enjoyed a bright start to pre-season in Germany and Portugal before the training ground tweak which ruled him out of the start of the current campaign.

But he is set to start against the Saints at Whitley Park in Benton (kick-off 7pm) first as Willie Donachie and Peter Beardsley's team look to continue their winning form.

So far they have beaten Tottenham 6-4 and Stoke 5-1 with Adam Campbell and Bradden Inman grabbing hat-tricks in the respective matches, and both are included in the squad alongside summer signing Curtis Good.

First-year scholar defender Ryan McKinnon is also included and could make his competitive second-string debut while right-back Alex Nicholson returns after making his debut for Wales under-19s in Germany this week.

Admission for season ticket holders and Members is free, with general prices £3 for adults and £1 concessions.

The squad is: Jak Alnwick, Jonathan Mitchell, Alex Nicholson, Michael Riley, Steven Logan, Ryan McKinnon, Curtis Good, Steven Logan, Conor Newton, Michael Richardson, Dennis Knight, Bradden Inman, JJ Hooper, Adam Campbell, Sammy Ameobi, Alex Gilliead
