Ryan's Taylor-Made For Toon - Joe

United gaffer welcomes arrival of Wigan ace

By Craig Hope

JOE Kinnear has welcomed the "experience and versatility" of black-and-white new boy Ryan Taylor after the completion of his deadline-day transfer to Newcastle United.

Taylor - still just 24 - is only five games short of 200 career appearances having made his way through the youth ranks at Tranmere Rovers before sealing a move to Wigan Athletic in 2005.

And the former England Under-21 international, who is comfortable on both the left and right side of defence and midfield, has become the Magpies' third addition of the January window as he follows Peter Lovenkrands and fellow Scouser Kevin Nolan into the Barrack Road arrival lounge.

A delighted Kinnear told nufc.co.uk: "I'm over the moon to get Ryan because he is still a young player but one with a lot of experience.

"He's played nearly 200 career games and is still only 24.

"His versatility is tremendous, he can play on the left or the right and in defence or midfield.

"He's a total footballer in that he's got two good feet and is very good on the ball which I like very much.

"He's another Scouse lad like Kevin Nolan with a great character and we're very happy to get him on board."
