Rob Elliot talks to nufc.co.uk about a return to first team action, and facing some of the best in the business

Rob Elliot believes he will become a better goalkeeper following his pre-season exploits, having tested himself against some of Europe's best attackers over the past fortnight.
The former Charlton man impressed in between the sticks during United's opening friendly against German third division side Chemnitzer, despite a 1-0 loss, but it was against Fenerbahce last Saturday where Elliot was given a real examination.
Facing the likes of Moussa Sow, Dirk Kuyt and Alex to name but a few, it was a great experience for the stopper - and one he looked more than comfortable to be a part of.
And, having played two games in eight days, it was also a welcome return to first team action for the 26-year-old.
"It was a good tour. I didn't play a lot of football last year so it was good to have a couple of games in quick succession," explained Elliot to nufc.co.uk.
"I felt a massive improvement between the two matches. There's still things I need to work on, but the more games you play the better you are going to get, and the more comfortable you become.
"I went from playing almost every week for three years, to not playing for a year, so you just need to get back into it.
"When we played against Fenerbahce they had a great team and that's the dream. You want to play at the top, against the top players, and being at Newcastle gives you a great opportunity to do that.
"I've just got to keep doing well and working hard, and hope that my performances improve me as a goalkeeper."
