Loic Remy has revealed how a pre-match pep talk from Alan Pardew inspired him to fire Newcastle to victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.
And the Magpies' leading scorer admitted that his "good relationship" with the Magpies manager has been key to the Frenchman's fine form in front of goal.
Remy netted his 12th of the season in stoppage time to give United a much-needed 1-0 win against the Villans, a first success in five matches.
It came just a matter of minutes after he'd hit the post with the goal at his mercy - and helped to make up for missing the previous three games through suspension after he was sent off against Norwich last month.
Speaking to nufcTV, Remy said: "The gaffer made me very confident before the game. He told me that I could make the difference.
"For me, it's very important to have a good relationship with the gaffer and I think that's why we got the result.
"I'm very, very happy to score goals for Newcastle United because I signed for this team to score goals."
He added: "The goal was very important for me and for the team as well because we needed some confidence after the few games we lost.
"I missed an opportunity just before my goal but my head never went down and kept going. That's why I scored.
"All the players are focused on the same thing; all the players are coming back and we've seen a big change.
"We were very concentrated about the same thing and I'm very proud of my team-mates."
