Loic Remy is being compared to legendary striker Thierry Henry by his teammates, and gave United some 'Va Va Voom' at Cardiff on Saturday with a match-winning brace.
The French front man put Newcastle firmly in the driving seat in South Wales with two goals in eight first-half minutes.
Although Peter Odemwingie halved the deficit after the break, the Magpies held on for three valuable points, with Remy's goals the main talking point.
Both strikes differed greatly but had one thing in common - the mark of a classy finisher.
Remy's first saw the on-loan QPR man pick up the ball on the halfway line before a pacy, direct run down the left flank was completed with a low finish, having cut inside.
The second also came from the edge of the area but was a reaction to a parried Papiss Cisse shot, Remy guiding a clinical side-footed effort into the bottom corner.
They both bore a resemblance to typical Henry goals during his prolific tenure at Premier League rivals Arsenal.
And while Remy is happy to be spoken about in the same breath as one of the game's greats, he wants to be known for his own achievements in the black and white stripes of Newcastle.
"I am very happy and delighted because that is what I work all week for," he told nufc.co.uk following the final whistle.
"I am a striker so it is my job to score.
"Today I took my chances. The first goal was very good - in training I was not scoring many goals with my feet but I worked hard to change that, so when I saw the ball in the net I was very happy.
"The second goal, I did a good job in following the ball and scoring.
"The guys in the changing room said to me it was like a Thierry Henry goal, so that made me smile.
"I am often compared with Thierry Henry and it is nice to hear that from people because it means I am doing something right.
"But we are two different players with two different careers and I want to be known for being Loic Remy, not just someone who is like him."
United could have been out of sight at half-time, such was their dominance at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Only Bluebirds' goalkeeper David Marshall prevented a more emphatic scoreline, producing heroics to deny Remy, Moussa Sissoko, Papiss Cisse and Yohan Cabaye as the visitors peppered his goal at times.
As well as three points, Newcastle had the added bonus of an outstanding team performance, and Remy was a happy man as he prepared to head home to Tyneside.
"The first half was excellent. It was very quick and we had good intensity," he explained.
"The second half was more difficult but even when Cardiff pushed on in the second half we defended well and always looked like we could score again.
"It was important to win today because we have had a couple of difficult games and results.
"But today we wanted to win to stay in the middle of the Premier League, and not to fall down towards the bottom.
"Now we have ten points and we are happy because everyone helped get the job done and we all worked hard for the win."
