Proud Peacock Set To Become A Boss

Written by Newcastle Utd

Darren Peacock is set to become the new head coach of Lancaster City, the Dolly Blues have confirmed

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Former Newcastle defender Darren Peacock is set to take over as head coach of Evo-Stik League Northern Premier outfit Lancaster City.

The defender, famous for his flowing locks and for scoring the opening goal in the 5-0 win against Manchester United, has kept a low profile since retiring from football in 2000 following a spinal injury.

He attended the Newcastle United Foundation's inaugral Hall of Fame dinner last month, however, and is expected to take charge of the Dolly Blues next week.

A brief statement on their official website read: "Lancaster City confirm that they are in final negotiations with former Premier League defender Darren Peacock over the vacant head coach position.

"We intend to reach a conclusion early next week and will release a further statement at that time."

Lancaster parted company with Michael Stringfellow and former Darlington and Sunderland winger Neil Wainwright in February. They are currently 14th in the table.
