Pete's Lov For The Supporters

Peter Lovenkrands has paid tribute to United's "special" support, after completing his move to Birmingham City on Monday night

Peter Lovenkrands has paid tribute to United's "special" support, after completing his move to Birmingham City on Monday night.

The Danish forward, aged 32, spent three-and-a-half years at Newcastle but was one of 11 players released at the end of last season by manager Alan Pardew.

Lovenkrands was back on Tyneside last week after being given permission to take part in pre-season training while he searched for a new club, and that search didn't take too long as new Birmingham boss - and ex-Magpie - Lee Clark snapped him up.

And having departed for the Midlands, Lovenkrands was keen to send the Toon Army a special message, showing his appreciation for some memorable moments.

He told nufc.co.uk: "I can't thank the fans enough for what they did for me here.

"The support they gave me through, not only the good times, but the hard times too when I lost my dad, that was special. You can't ask for more than that and I will never forget it.

"I've enjoyed every minute I have been at Newcastle and I'm sad to leave, but this is football.

"Newcastle will always hold a special place in my heart though and I hope the boys have another great season as the Club deserves it."
