Young goalkeeper Brendan Pearson has extended his loan spell with Vanarama National League side Gateshead

Teenage goalkeeper Brendan Pearson has extended his loan spell with Gateshead until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old signed an initial one-month loan deal at the International Stadium last month and has provided cover for Sam Russell.

He has been an unused substitute in each of the Heed's last seven matches as Neil Aspin's men have climbed into the Vanarma National League play-off places.

Gateshead have won five and drawn once in those seven games and travel to league leaders Cheltenham on Tuesday night.

A former Haydon Bridge United player, Pearson has been with Newcastle for almost ten years and made his under-18s debut in an FA Youth Cup win at Barnsley in December 2013.

He signed an extension to his scholarship last summer and has made four Barclays Under-21 Premier League appearances for the Magpies this season.
