Pair Shine As England Win

Freddie Woodman saved a first-half penalty while Adam Armstrong was on target again as England beat Turkey in their second European Under-17 Championships group game.

Armstrong - who had already netted in Friday's 3-0 win over hosts Malta - had three chances inside the opening nine minutes in Gozo.

First, he made room with a wonderful Cruyff turn before seeing his shot well saved, then had two other efforts kept out by goalkeeper Tarik Cetin.

But then Turkey were awarded a penalty which Enes Unal stepped up to take, only for Woodman to dive to his right to block.

Seconds later, though, Unal did beat the young goalkeeper with a low shot from range.

Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke equalised before the break, then Armstrong had a free kick pushed away and a half-volley tipped behind.

In the second half, Hakan Ozkan was sent off for the Turks and England made their numerical advantage count as Solanke got his second and Everton's Jonjoe Kenny scored his first England goal.

Then Armstrong got in on the act himself in the 64th minute to make it 4-1 before coming off for Manchester United's Demetri Mitchell in the 70th minute.
