NUFC Player Of The Season Result

Senegal star Habib Beye lands more than a third of 9,000 votes in nufc.co.uk poll

By Craig Hope

SENEGAL star Habib Beye has landed the official nufc.co.uk player of the season award for 2007/08.

The 30-year-old only signed for the Geordies with minutes to spare of last summer's transfer window as he penned a three-year deal at St.James' Park.

And if this season's performances are anything to go by then the Toon Army will be happy to see the classy full-back remain on Tyneside for the rest of his playing days.

Indeed, such has been the impact of Beye during his maiden campaign, the former Marseille man scooped more than a third of the 9,000 votes in our recent nufc.co.uk player of the season poll.

Beye's closest rival came in the form of skipper Michael Owen who enjoyed his best season yet in black and white as he fired 13 goals from 28 starts.

Next was the ever-reliable Nicky Butt with the experienced midfielder having been arguably the most consistent performer over the past nine months.

Here's how you voted ...

Habib Beye v Spurs

1st - Habib Beye ... 33.6%

Michael Owen scores v Sunderland

2nd - Michael Owen ... 19.9%

Nicky Butt

3rd - Nicky Butt ... 18.1%
