Nolan Climbs Aboard The Orient Express

Former Newcastle United favourite Kevin Nolan is the new manager of Sky Bet League Two side Leyton Orient

Former Newcastle United favourite Kevin Nolan has been confirmed as Leyton Orient's new player-manager.

The 33-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half year deal at the Matchroom Stadium and will combine his first managerial role with playing for the Sky Bet League Two club.

Nolan joined Newcastle from Bolton in January 2009 and, although he was unable to help the Magpies avoid relegation at the end of that season, he played a huge role on and off the pitch as Chris Hughton's side clinched the Coca-Cola Championship in style in 2009/10.

And he wrote his name into St. James' Park folklore when he hit a memorable hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Sunderland in October 2010.

He left to join West Ham in June 2011, having made 91 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions. He scored 30 goals from midfield.

Nolan's first game in charge of the O's will be against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Previous boss Ian Hendon was relieved of his duties earlier this week.
