Jonjo Shelvey will make his Newcastle United debut in Saturday's Barclays Premier League home game against West Ham United (3pm kick-off).
The midfielder arrived from top flight rivals Swansea City on Tuesday and has gone straight into the Magpies' starting line-up as they enterain the Hammers at St. James' Park.
Shelvey replaces Cheick Tiote, who is currently discussing a transfer to a Chinese club, and that is the only change from Newcastle's encouraging 3-3 midweek draw with Manchester United.
It means Steve McClaren's side are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Rob Elliot behind a back four of Daryl Janmaat, Chancel Mbemba, captain Fabricio Coloccini and Paul Dummett.
Jack Colback and Shelvey will patrol the middle of the park for the hosts, with a trio of Moussa Sissoko, eight-goal leading scorer Georginio Wijnaldum and Ayoze Perez ahead of them.
And they will be tasked with supplying the ammunition for Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who netted his fourth goal of the season against Manchester United.
On the substitutes' bench there is a place for another new signing Henri Saivet, who came in from Bordeaux on Monday, while Emmanuel Riviere and Rolando Aarons return following injury.
And they are joined by Ivan Toney, Yoan Gouffran, Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow.
