SECOND HALF UPDATES

 90+4mins: Bordeaux's 17-match unbeaten run in all competitions has ended at the hands of Newcastle United who earned a fantastic win against the French outfit in their second group game of this season's Europa League. Shola Ameobi gave the Magpies the lead and when Henrique's own goal made it 2-0, the result never looked in doubt. Papiss Cisse completed the scoring early in the second half and Newcastle now have four points from two games in Group D.

90mins: There will be a minimum of four minutes of stoppage time, according to fourth official Raul Cabanero Martinez.

 88mins: James Perch is booked for a fractionally late tackle on Saivet. He may have got away with a talking to in the Barclays Premier League but not in the Europa League and so he becomes the fifth player yellow carded - the third for Newcastle after Cheick Tiote and Vurnon Anita.

87mins: N'Guemo shoots from outside the box after creating a yard or two of space, but although it's on target it has nowhere near enough power to beat Harper who is able to fall on top of the ball.

84mins: This game has really petered out now, with no real action at either end, but that suits Newcastle, who are 3-0 up and coasting right now.

79mins: Bellion goes for an audacious effort as the ball is whipped in from the right; he sticks out a leg to send an effort looping towards goal with his heel, but it drops just too high although Harper had to keep an eye on that just in case.

74mins: David Bellion somehow beat the offside trap - he looked yards off but four assistant referees disagreed - to go one-on-one with Steve Harper, but it's bad luck for the ex-Black Cat as the Newcastle keeper advances, stays big and blocks the forward's shot to preserve his clean sheet.

 72mins: N'Guemo is booked for a foul on Ameobi, who has been hugely impressive in leading the line this evening.

 71mins: Now comes Newcastle's last substitution of the night, with Dan Gosling replacing the hard-working Tiote. Again, Sunday's game is clearly in Alan Pardew's thinking.

 68mins: Ex-Sunderland and Manchester United striker David Bellion is on for Yoan Gouffran. He gets a rather hostile reception from the home fans, who clearly haven't forgotten that he used to play for the Black Cats. That's the visitors' final change of the evening.

66mins: Cisse goes for goal from 30 yards as he tries to catch Carrasso out, but the keeper backtracks and manages to keep the ball out relatively easily to deny the striker a second of the evening.

 61mins: Gael Bigirimana is on in place of Yohan Cabaye, clearly with Sunday's game against Manchester United in mind. He receives a great reception from all four corners of the ground, including those Bordeaux fans, and he deserves it after a great display in central midfield. Bigirimana comes on as United prepare to defend a corner and the ex-Coventry man's first touch is to clear the flag-kick to safety.

58mins: Hats off to the Bordeaux fans - they're still chanting away in that North-East corner despite seeing their side comprehensively outplayed at the beginning of this second half. Newcastle look in complete control now and are clearly enjoying this as they're keeping the ball for long periods.

56mins: Yohan Cabaye drives forward and shoots from 30 yards for Newcastle, but although his effort appears to momentarily worry Cedric Carrasso, it drops over his bar and into the Gallowgate end. Cabaye looks eager to impress against the French outfit, though, and has played well tonight.

 49mins - NEWCASTLE GOAL (3-0): It's three assists in three games for Shane Ferguson, who whips in a pinpoint cross from the left and Papiss Cisse does the rest, guiding home from ten yards. The Senegalese striker may have had a slow start to the season but with deliveries like that, no wonder he now has two in his last three matches. The goal is celebrated by a semi-streaker, who rather bizarrely runs onto the pitch with a t-shirt and nothing else on - but it's young Ferguson who is on a hot streak at the moment.

48mins: Harper's first save is a rather unorthodox stop with his leg to keep out a close-range flick from Henri Saivet. It does the job, though, and from the corner kick James Perch heads the ball away.

 46mins: There's a change at half-time for Newcastle - Steve Harper is on for Rob Elliot, who didn't appear to be injured but presumably picked up a knock. Bordeaux make a double change with Jaroslav Plasil off for Landry N'Guemo and Cheick Diabate replacing Ludovic Obraniak. Meanwhile, tonight's attendance is 30,987 as Newcastle kick off the second period.

FIRST HALF UPDATES

45+1mins: Half-time: Newcastle 2 Bordeaux 0. Shola Ameobi's opener set the Magpies on their way and Henrique's own goal has put them in a great position, not only in this match but potentially in Group D of the Europa League. United have been excellent and if they keep this up look certain to move onto four points - overtaking their opponents, who currently top the table.

45mins: There will be one minute of stoppage time added on at the end of the half.

 44mins: An action-packed few seconds for Anita. First the Dutchman bursts into the box and sees Carrasso smother his shot, then Cabaye's follow-up appears to strike a Bordeaux hand but referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz waves play on and as Bordeaux break, Anita is booked for bringing down Obraniak.

 40mins - NEWCASTLE GOAL (2-0): Newcastle double their advantage and it's an own goal from Henrique - although had he got got a touch to Simpson's glorious cross, Papiss Cisse surely would have done anyway. Ameobi did well, holding up the ball before laying it off to the right-back, and his cross was forced past his own keeper by the sliding Brazilian, who is enduring a miserable evening having been booked earlier. But that puts Alan Pardew's side in control and they deserve it, too.

39mins: Out of nothing, big midfielder Sane strikes the ball from fully 35 yards and it's a great effort which brings a good save out of Elliot, who dives to his left to parry before an assistant referee's flag puts paid to Borde. At the other end, Cabaye goes for a long-range strike of his own but this one is off target, swerving wide of Carrasso's goal.

33mins: Another vital interception from Williamson denies Gouffran. The striker met Saivet's right-wing delivery but Williamson was in his way as the visitors have to settle for another corner, which United deal with.

31mins: With the French side enjoying quite a lot of possession, Alan Pardew appears to have changed shape a little. Newcastle have gone from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2, with Obertan now operating as a left-winger and Anita moving out to the right hand side.

29mins: An important block from Mike Williamson sees Gouffran's shot deflect over the bar after Jussie had controlled the ball in the box and managed to set up a decent chance for his team-mate. Ludovic Obraniak whips in the resulting flag-kick but Rob Elliot confidently claims the cross high above his head, just as he has held everything so far tonight.

25mins: The Ivorian enforcer is back on in time to help Newcastle defend a corner, which Danny Simpson heads away, and it looks as though he'll be okay to continue despite Gael Bigirimana being sent out to warm up on the touchline.

24mins: It doesn't look good for Tiote, who has just gone down with nobody near him and clearly in some pain. He had tried to tackle Jussie but pulled out, only to apparently suffer some kind of reaction and he has now hobbled off with physio Dave Henderson to receive further treatment.

 20mins: Cheick Tiote is booked for clattering into Jussie just inside the Newcastle half. From the resulting free-kick, Ludovic Sane gets in a flicked header but Elliot reads it well and gathers with ease.

 16mins - NEWCASTLE GOAL (1-0): The Magpies lead and it's captain Shola Ameobi with another European goal - but it owes so much to former Bordeaux man Gabriel Obertan. It was his great piece of direct play to beat his man and dart into the box before drilling in a perfect low cross which allowed the striker to tap home from just three or four yards out. Newcastle are ahead and if the scoreline was to remain the same it would put Newcastle in pole position in this group.

15mins: Play continues to ebb and flow from end to end, with Bordeaux attacking through Mariano, who tees up Yoan Gouffran who shoots straight at a grateful Elliot from just inside the area. 

14mins: Cabaye steps up to take the set-piece and parts of the stadium erupt as it looks from some quarters to have flown in, with Carrasso rooted to the spot. Alas, it hit the side-netting and the score remains 0-0.

 13mins: Defender Henrique becomes the first man booked, and United have a free-kick just outside the Bordeaux box. Vurnon Anita won the ball in midfield and slid a lovely pass to Shola Ameobi, who took a touch before being body-checked by the flat-footed Brazilian.

8mins: Another shot from the French side, who are now settling into the game after that wonderful United opening, but this one was well wide. Saivet tried his luck from distance but dragged it the wrong wide of Elliot's near post, with the keeper happy to watch it go behind for a goal kick.

6mins: A great opportunity for Bordeaux to take the lead with their first attack of the game. Skipper Jaroslav Plasil gets the ball from Henri Saivet wide on the left and sends over an inviting cross for Ludovic Obraniak who heads over the bar when he should have tested Rob Elliot. Moments after that, he does, getting in a shot from 20 yards which is hit straight down the throat of the Magpies keeper who was so impressive in the opening group game at Maritimo.

2mins: The Magpies fly out of the blocks and as Papiss Cisse and Yohan Cabaye combine down the right, the latter sends a drive from the right-angle of the penalty area which sees Cederic Carrasso, the Bordeaux goalkeeper, dive at full stretch but flies just wide. Then seconds later, Cisse almost manages to control the ball in the box only for the visitors to scramble it away - what a start from United.

 1min: Bordeaux kick the game off, with Newcastle again wearing their fluo lime European/third kit (available to buy here) and the visitors in a stylish dark blue Puma strip with pink and white piping. The French fans in the North-East corner are making plenty of noise but the home supporters seem in the mood to rise to the challenge of drowning them out. The Sports Direct Arena isn't full but it looks like a decent crowd for this Europa League Group D match against a Bordeaux outfit who beat Brugge 4-0 in their opening match of the competition.
