Relive the big moments from Newcastle's dramatic Europa League win over Anzhi Makhachkala with our minute-by-minute report

Newcastle United 1 (Cisse 90+3)
Anzhi Makhachkala 0

SECOND HALF UPDATES

GOAL-MDC-iconsWHISTLE-MDC-icons90+3mins - NEWCASTLE GOAL (1-0): Yes! With literally the last kick of the game, Papiss Cisse heads Newcastle United into the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Sylvain Marveaux sent over an inch perfect cross and the Senegalese striker headed expertly home. The whistle blew immediately afterwards, with no time for Anzhi to even take kick-off, and Newcastle go into tomorrow's draw in the most dramatic way possible. What a way to win it!

90mins: There will be three minutes of stoppage time and unless there's a goal between now and then, extra time beckons.

88mins: A very harsh free-kick decision against Tiote allows Mbark Boussoufa to step up and curl a free-kick goalwards from 19 yards. It may even have got a slight touch from Elliot to take it onto the woodwork but one way or another, it crashes against the bar and the fans behind that Gallowgate goal can breathe again.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons86mins: Zhirkov is booked for leaving a very high boot in the face of Marveaux as Elliot tried to spring a quick counter-attack with a swift throw.

82mins: Eto'o almost takes advantage of a rare slip from Haidara as he gets in a shot from the narrowest of angles, but Elliot beats it away at his near post and United scramble the loose ball away.

76mins: Santon moves the ball from the left into the path of Tiote, who hits a stinging shot which flies agonisingly wide. Gabulov was getting nowhere near that had it been a few inches to the left.

SUB-MDC-icons74mins: Marveaux wriggles past a challenge but sends his shot into the Leazes end. Now Anzhi make their first change - Lassana Diarra is replaced by Oleg Shatov.

SUB-MDC-icons71mins: Here comes Campbell, in place of Anita. What a bold move this is from Pardew and what a moment for the youngster, still only 18 and making just his third appearance at senior level.

69mins: Cisse sees a clever header tipped around the post by Gabulov but the flag was already up for offside. Meanwhile, Alan Pardew is giving instructions to young Adam Campbell who looks set to come on.

59mins: The language barrier causes a moment of confusion between Taylor and Yanga-Mbiwa, allowing Eto'o to sneak in but the Anzhi skipper fires well over the bar from just outside the box.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons57mins: Vurnon Anita now goes into the book for a fairly innocuous challenge over the other side of the pitch.

Yellow---Red-Card-MDC-icons55mins: Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez is sent off for a second yellow card. The Anzhi man caught Haidara late and referee Aytekin initially looked set to bottle showing the red after awarding the free-kick. However, the German decided he had no other option and so the Russians are down to ten men.

52mins: Another golden chance for the Magpies - Marveaux's deep free-kick from the right is touched back across goal by Cisse for Taylor and the defender, so impressive in the other box all night, underhits his shot. Had he really thumped that, it would have been a goal.

50mins: Marveaux brilliantly brings a raking Tiote pass under his spell and then crosses for Sissoko, who just doesn't get enough on his header to send it goalwards - that was a great opportunity for United, who have started this second half well.

Yellow-Card-MDC-icons48mins: Carcela-Gonzalez is the first player booked for a late challenge on Massadio Haidara, and German referee Deniz Aytekin had no choice but to brandish a card there.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons46mins: It's Newcastle, now kicking towards the Leazes end, who get the second half started. Remember, tonight's game will go to extra time and then to penalties if neither team can find a goal in the next 45 minutes. Tonight's attendance is 45,487. Straight away, Tiote plays a good ball for Cisse to lay off towards Sissoko, but the midfielder completely miskicks and has an air shot. The ball rolls for Vurnon Anita, though, who does well to keep play alive and find Marveaux on the right-hand side of the box. He crosses and Sissoko meets with his head. Gabulov is rooted to the spot but alas it goes inches over.

FIRST HALF UPDATES

WHISTLE-MDC-icons45+1mins: After a first half that's been high on quality but low on goalmouth action, we're no nearer to knowing who out of Newcastle and Anzhi Makhachkala will take their place in the last eight of the Europa League. It's 0-0 at the break and it sets up a grandstand second half. Click here for the half-time report.

45mins: Marveaux sends in a free-kick from the right and Taylor arrives at the far post to head just over. There will be one minute of stoppage time.

38mins: An awful free-kick from Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa concedes possession in a very dangerous area and Newcastle are relieved to see Carcela-Gonzalez hit the side-netting with the resulting shot.

SUB-MDC-icons37mins: Bad news for Newcastle - Yohan Cabaye, who has been a driving force for the Magpies so far, hurt himself three or four minutes earlier as he stretched to make a pass and it looks like a groin strain. He tried to play on but he now comes off - Jonas Gutierrez is on in his place and Cheick Tiote takes the captain's armband.

28mins: The impervious Taylor makes another important block from Jucilel, whose shot might have caused problems for Elliot if it had made its way through.

24mins: Cabaye sees a shot charged down and then as the ball breaks to Tiote a good 35 yards from goal, the Ivorian has a go but it's far too high and flies into the Gallowgate.

20mins: Yohan Cabaye tries his luck and sees his shot take a deflection but the ball spins into the gloves of Gabulov, who nonetheless showed good hands to hang on so securely.

19mins: There's a spot of pinball as a corner falls for Odil Ahmedov and his mishit shot hits one of his own players to take it wide. Then as Newcastle try to mount an attack from the goal kick, Cheick Tiote gives the ball away but Taylor is again there with a magnificent challenge to deny Diarra again. "Taylor for England," is the chant from the Strawberry Corner and it's hard to disgree with those supporters when he's playing like this.

17mins: Eto'o plays a lovely give-and-go with Carcela-Gonzalez but Steven Taylor makes not one but two superb interceptions to repel the danger. First he blocks and then, as the ball breaks for Lassana Diarra, he slides in from nowhere to steal the ball off the midfielder's toe. Fantastic defending from the local lad.

16mins: Anzhi work the ball nicely to Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalex on the left and he strikes with a low shot but it's off target and Rob Elliot wasn't worried about that one.

11mins: Sylvain Marveaux brilliantly wins the ball from Yuri Zhirkov on the right then chips the ball to Papiss Cisse, who holds it up before returning it to the Frenchman. A great piece of skill works a yard of space and he sends a fizzing shot from 20 yards into the side-netting with Vladimir Gabulov at full stretch. It's been cat and mouse until now but that almost changed the complexion of this tie altogether.

3mins: Andrei Eschenko makes a darting run from right-back towards the Newcastle box before poking the ball to Eto'o just inside the area, but the Cameroon star's shot flashes across goal.

WHISTLE-MDC-icons1min: In front of what is by some distance the biggest St. James' Park crowd of Newcastle's Europa League campaign so far, we're underway under the floodlights for a match which has the feel of a genuinely special evening on Tyneside. The Magpies are in black and white while Anzhi Makhachkala are in all yellow, just as they were for the first leg in Moscow seven days ago, and after Yohan Cabaye and Samuel Eto'o contest the toss it's the visitors who get us underway with United kicking towards the Gallowgate end in the first period.
