A UEFA ruling means new boy Massadio Haidara will not wear his usual number 19 in the Europa League

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Massadio Haidara has been allocated a new number for the Europa League due to his current squad number already having been used in the competition.

The Frenchman took squad number 19 when he joined Newcastle, and will continue to wear that shirt in the Barclays Premier League.

But Demba Ba wore the same number in the Europa League group stages and, under UEFA rules, a different number must be issued to the new boy.

Therefore, former Nancy defender Haidara will wear number 35 for the remainder of the continental competition.

He could make his Magpies debut in Thursday's round of 32 first leg clash against Metalist Kharkiv at St. James' Park, and tickets for the 8.05pm kick-off are still available here or from the Box Office on 0844 372 1892.
