Six young Newcastle United players have put pen to paper on new deals at St. James' Park, the Club can confirm.

Goalkeepers Jak Alnwick and Jonathan Mitchell, defender Paul Dummett, midfielders Conor Newton and Michael Richardson and forward Alex Gilliead have all extended their stays on Tyneside.

England Under-17 international Gilliead, aged 17, has agreed a three-year deal, with Alnwick, 20, signing for a further two-years. The Academy graduate stopper was a substitute five times in the Premier League and Europa League last season, although is yet to make his senior Magpies bow.

Dummett and Newton, both 21, had successful loan spells at St. Mirren last season where they picked up the Scottish League Cup, with Newton scoring the winner in a 3-2 final victory over Hearts. The duo have penned fresh one-year contracts with United.

Midfielder Richardson, 21, has also signed a new one-year deal. The former electrician turned out a couple of times for Gillingham in a brief loan spell last term and, despite injury, also featured for Newcastle's Under-21 side.

Academy goalkeeper Mitchell, 18, was a regular inbetween the sticks for the Club's Under-18s last term and also made a handful of appearances at Under-21 level. He has agreed a one-year contract.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United can also confirm that long-serving goalkeeper Steve Harper and 21-year-old Yven Moyo left the Club when their contracts expired at the end of June. Defender Danny Simpson was also out of contract and has joined Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Academy quartet Esteban Cardona Lopez, Lee Desmond, Alex Kitchen and Alex Nicholson have also been released.
