Dave Watson's Newcastle youngsters will face opposition from Japan, Spain and Northern Ireland in the group stages of this year's Dale Farm Milk Cup.

United reached the final of the main competition in 2012 before losing to Desportivo Brazil, while they were beaten by Liverpool in last year's Globe final.

Following the traditional parade of competing teams through Coleraine on Sunday, 27th July, this year's tournament kicks off a day later, when the Magpies meet Funabashi of Japan at Scroggy Road in Limavady with a 3.30pm kick-off.

The following evening, Newcastle take on County Londonderry at the Coleraine Showgrounds (kick-off 8pm), then come up against Espanyol in Portstewart on Wednesday, 30th July with a 7pm kick-off.

Future stars like Ryan Giggs, Jermain Defoe, Craig Bellamy, Joe Cole, Steve McManaman and Paul Scholes have all played in the Milk Cup.

And Adam Campbell and Adam Armstrong have both shone for Newcastle in the tournament over the last two years.

The schedule is as follows:

Mon 28 July Funabashi (Japan) - kick-off 3.30pm at Scroggy Road, Limavady
Tue 29 July County Londonderry (Northern Ireland) - kick-off 8pm at the Showgrounds, Coleraine
Wed 30 July Espanyol (Spain) - kick-off 7pm at Seahaven, Portstewart
