Mike Jones will referee Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture at West Bromwich Albion

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Mike Jones will referee Newcastle United's Barclays Premier League fixture at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

It is the third time this season the Cheshire-based official have been in charge of a Magpies' match, having overseen a dramatic 2-2 draw at Everton last September and a 3-0 home win over Wigan at the start of December.

On that evening at St. James' Park, Jones booked four players including Sammy Ameobi.

So far this term, the 44-year-old has been appointed to 29 games across the Premier League, Championship, League One, FA Cup and Capital One Cup, issuing 83 yellow cards, three reds and awarding nine penalties.

Jones was promoted to the Football League list of referees in 1997 and went on to take charge of the League Two play-off final and FA Trophy in 2007, before moving into the Select Group which officiates in the top flight.

In May 2012, he was the fourth official for referee Phil Dowd at the FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Liverpool.

On Saturday at the Hawthorns, Jones will be assisted by Andy Garratt and Ceri Richards, with Dave Phillips the game's fourth official.
