Melanie's Goals Are Shear Class

Written by Newcastle Utd

Big Al's cousin nets top womens Premier League award for NUWFC in scoring stakes

Newcastle United WFC striker and assistant manager Melanie Reay picked up the FAWPL Northern Div top goalscorer at an end-of-season awards ceremony in London.

Toon fans were used to seeing record goal legend Alan Shearer top the Magpies' scoring stakes and the ability to stick the ball in the back of the net clearly runs in the family as Melanie is a cousin of our former talisman.

Melanie hit 28 goals in the 2007/08 season season to make her the highest striker in all three divisions of the FAWPL.

NUWFC Head coach Rob Atkin said: "The FAWPL Awards are a very prestigous occasion and Melanie Reay`s performances in front of goal have been fully rewarded.

"Everyone at Newcastle United is very proud to have Mel with us as she is a fantastic example to those around her."

Newcastle United also came runners up in the FA Club Media award behind Birmingham City.
