Steve McClaren has confirmed the appointment of his new coaching team in a direct email to supporters.

Alongside goalkeeper coach Andy Woodman, who remains at the Club, the Magpies have confirmed the arrival of Paul Simpson, Ian Cathro, Alessandro Schoenmaker and Steve Black.

Paul Simpson and Ian Cathro have been appointed as McClaren's assistant coaches. Simpson joins after leaving Derby County, while Cathro has recently returned to the UK from a similar position at Valencia CF, who finished fourth in Spain's La Liga last season to achieve UEFA Champions League qualification.

McClaren is also joined by fitness coach Schoenmaker, who has previously worked under him at FC Twente in Holland, VfL Wolfsburg in Germany and at both Nottingham Forest and Derby County in the Championship.

Steve Black returns to the club in a consultancy role after previously working with the Magpies in the 1990s. Renowned for his work with leading athletes including Jonny Wilkinson at Newcastle Falcons, Black has also worked with Wales RFU, the British and Irish Lions and a number of football clubs.
