Matt Finish Just The Start

Written by Newcastle Utd

Matt Ritchie has promised more of the same after his stunner against Bohemian on Saturday

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Matt Ritchie struck the goal of the game for Newcastle United in their 6-0 pre-season friendly demolition of Bohemian and then promised - 'there's more of those to come'.

It took Ritchie less than 15 minutes of his first appearance for the Magpies to find the back of the net, receiving Jamie Sterry's pass inside a crowded penalty area and bending a brilliant effort into the top left-hand corner.

The winger caught the eye throughout his half of action, creating a handful of openings from his berth on the right flank while also threatening to add to his and United's tally.

And Ritchie believes Newcastle fans have seen a glimpse of what he can offer.

"It was a good test and I thoroughly enjoyed it," the summer signing from Bournemouth told nufc.co.uk.

"You can only beat what's put in front of you and, on a tricky pitch, I thought we moved the ball quite well.

"I was really pleased to score and delighted with the finish. Hopefully there's a few more of them to come - that's the plan.

"Goals give you confidence, and goals and assists are what the gaffer's brought me in for, so I'll be looking to supply that.

"But there were some good goals out there throughout the team.

"The quality we've got within the group is fantastic. We've got a solid base and some flair up front as well, so hopefully we can continue as we've set off today and build up nicely to the start of the season."

Ritchie was also full of praise for the large travelling contingent of Magpies, who helped pack out Dalymount Park, in Dublin.

"There were a fair few fans and they were pretty vocal, which was fantastic," he continued.

"It was great to see them and we're going to need all their support this season. If they were that good for a friendly then I can't wait to hear them at our first league game."
