Mathieu Salutes Classy Cabaye

Mathieu Debuchy believes his close friend Yohan Cabaye will be a vital player for Newcastle after returning from injury

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

They played together at Lille for seven years and now they're reunited at St. James' Park, and Mathieu Debuchy believes Yohan Cabaye's return from injury could be crucial for Newcastle's Barclays Premier League run-in.

Cabaye was back for United's last two games after a groin operation had sidelined him since November, and wasted no time in showing what his team had been missing with a stunning free-kick against Reading last weekend.

That capped a superb engine room display from the midfielder despite a disappointing defeat to the Royals, although he came off after 74 minutes to prevent a reoccurence of the injury.

However, he's likely to be available for Tuesday's important game at Aston Villa and Debuchy believes his quality was there for all to see last weekend.

"I was really happy for him," said Debuchy, who is currently staying with his close friend as he settles into his new surroundings following his move from France earlier this month.

"He scored a brilliant goal and he came back and played very well. It was a magnificent goal and he played a very good game.

"He came back into it really well and you could see the quality of his passing, but obviously he was a bit tired so he came off."
