A first Premier League goal was of little consolation to Sylvain Marveaux, as United went down 7-3 away at Arsenal on Saturday night.
The French playmaker's display was one of a few bright spots on a remarkable evening at the Emirates Stadium, netting Newcastle's second and supplying one for Demba Ba with an exquisite outside-of-the-boot pass.
But as the Magpies left London empty-handed, Marveaux was in no mood to receive compliments or plaudits.
"This is my first goal in the Premier League so it is a special moment for me and I am happy for that, but just disappointed for the loss," he told nufc.co.uk.
"I thought we had a good game up until about 70 minutes and then maybe we were a little bit tired from the game on Boxing Day, but (to concede) seven goals is too much.
"We kept the ball from them, we played well until their fourth goal, we scored three great goals and I think we have to defend better as a team. When we score, especially away from home, we have to be stronger and get the results.
"It's very hard to take because we have had two great opportunities in the last two games but have got no points from them.
"Now we just have to focus on the next game at home and make sure we get the three points."
