At Old Trafford

Alan Pardew has made nine changes to his Newcastle United starting line-up for their third round Capital One Cup tie at Manchester United on Wednesday night (7.45pm kick-off).

The only survivors from Sunday's victory over Norwich are defenders James Perch and Mike Williamson, with manager Pardew giving the rest of his squad game time at Old Trafford.

Captain Fabricio Coloccini returns from a hamstring injury which has kept him out of the Magpies' last three games, and the Argentine is part of a back four alongside Perch, Williamson and 20-year-old James Tavernier, with the quartet protecting goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

In midfield, former Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan starts on the right, with fellow Frenchman Sylvain Marveaux on the opposite flank. Cheick Tiote and Dan Gosling are the central duo.

Slovenian international Haris Vuckic, 20, will be deployed in a role just behind lone striker Shola Ameobi.

On the substitutes' bench there are places for youngsters Shane Ferguson, Gael Bigirimana and Sammy Ameobi, while there is also experienced firepower in the shape of Papiss Cisse.

Manchester United name a line-up boasting plenty of experience in the shape of internationals David de Gea, Tom Cleverley, Anderson, Danny Welbeck, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Darren Fletcher, who is starting his first game in ten months following a chronic bowel problem.
