Tim Krul makes his first competitive appearance in four months as Newcastle United kick-off their 2013/14 Barclays Premier League campaign away at Manchester City on Monday night.

The Dutch international stopper suffered a dislocated shoulder in the Tyne-Wear derby back in April but, following surgery and two friendly displays this summer, Krul is back between the sticks for the Magpies at the Etihad Stadium.

Manager Alan Pardew has been able to select a strong side for the fixture, with nine internationals in United's starting line-up.

They are expected to start in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Krul protected by a back four of Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor, captain Fabricio Coloccini and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, the latter of who fills in at left-back for the injured Davide Santon.

Cheick Tiote and Jonas Gutierrez will anchor Newcastle's midfield, with a trio of Hatem Ben Arfa, Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran just ahead of them.

And last season's top scorer - 13-goal Papiss Cisse - leads the line on his own, hoping to get the new season off to a flyer.

On the substitutes' bench there is a place for Paul Dummett, who would make his Premier League debut if he comes on, and the homegrown youngster is joined by Shola Ameobi, Sammy Ameobi, Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain MarveauxVurnon Anita and Rob Elliot.

Manchester City (4-4-2): Joe Hart; Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany (c), Joleon Lescott, Gael Clichy; Jesus Navas, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, David Silva; Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero

Substitutes: Costel Pantilimon, Aleksandar Kolarov, Javi Garcia, Jack Rodwell, James Milner, Samir Nasri, Alvaro Negredo

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa; Cheick Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez; Hatem Ben Arfa, Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran; Papiss Cisse

Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Vurnon Anita, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi
