Magpies' Quartet Receive French Call

Written by Newcastle Utd

A round-up of which Newcastle players have been called upon for international duty next week

By Anthony Marshall - Newcastle United Managing Editor

Yohan Cabaye, Mathieu Debuchy, Moussa Sissoko and Loic Remy have all been named in the France squad for their two-legged World Cup qualifying play-off against Ukraine.

The Newcastle United quartet are part of a 24-man Les Bleus party which will travel to Kiev on Friday, 15th November, before hosting the second-leg of the tie in Paris four days later.

The winner will go through to next summer's World Cup in Brazil.

All four players have been in fine form for Newcastle this season. Front man Remy has six goals in just eight appearances since his loan switch from QPR, while midfielder Cabaye has netted twice and even full-back Debuchy has scored, away at Sunderland.

Powerhouse Sissoko is yet to open his account for the new campaign but has once again proved his worth to the squad with a number of impressive performances across a range of midfield positions.

Elsewhere, Shola Ameobi has been called-up by Nigeria as they also look to secure a place in the World Cup finals.

The Super Eagles have already played their first-leg against Ethiopia, which they won 2-1, and the sides meet again on Saturday, 16th November, in Lagos for the deciding match.

On Monday, 18th November, Nigeria face Italy in friendly action, which Ameobi will also be hoping to be involved in.

Another United star in World Cup qualifying action next weekend is Papiss Cisse, whose Senegal team take on the Ivory Coast in Casablanca on Saturday, 16th November.

However, Senegal are behind 3-1 from the first-leg so it will take a mammoth effort from Cisse and Co to turn the tie around.

In under-21 action, Haris Vuckic is part of the Slovenia Under-21 squad which takes on Russia (15th November) and Bulgaria (19th November).

Youngster Lubo Satka could represent Slovakia's Under-19s in a tournament against Greece, Bulgaria and Albania, while Academy midfielder Michael Newberry has been named in the Northern Ireland Under-17 squad for games with Latvia, Luxembourg and Turkey.
