Magpies Duo Inspire French Turnaround

Mathieu Debuchy and Yohan Cabaye helped inspire France to a place in next summer's World Cup

Newcastle United duo Mathieu Debuchy and Yohan Cabaye helped inspire France to a place in next summer's World Cup.

Facing an uphill battle and a 2-0 deficit from their qualification play-off first-leg against Ukraine, Les Bleus turned the tie on its head on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory to secure their passage to the finals.

Debuchy and Cabaye both started in Paris as strikes from Mamadou Sakho, Karim Benzema and an Oleh Husyev own goal proved decisive.

Right-back Debuchy played a key role in Benzema's goal but was equally effective at the other end, clearing Andriy Yarmolenko's effort off the line.

Fellow Magpies teammates Loic Remy and Moussa Sissoko were unused substitutes for Didier Deschamps' side, and they will all be hoping to continue their impressive club form to and claim a place on the plane to Brazil at the end of the season.
