Loan Watch: No Way Through For Sammy

Written by Newcastle Utd

Sammy Ameobi's fifth Middlesbrough appearance ended in stalemate as Boro were held at home by Peterborough

By Dan King - Newcastle United Club Reporter

Sammy Ameobi was back in the starting XI for Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, but couldn't inspire his team-mates to victory against struggling Peterborough at the Riverside.

The England under-21 international had been a 62nd minute substitute in Boro's defeat at Wolves last time out but he was one of five changes to the team against the Posh.

Ameobi tested visiting keeper Bobby Olejnik in the first half as Tony Mowbray's men went on the offensive but they struggled to find a way through after the break.

The Magpies man played the whole game but the match finished 0-0 - a scoreline which leaves Boro in eighth position, six points off the play-off places.

It was Ameobi's fifth appearance for Middlesbrough.
