Alex Gilliead and Remy Cabella both found the net for their respective loan clubs at the weekend

Two of Newcastle United's loan stars were on target at the weekend, as Remy Cabella and Alex Gilliead both found the back of the net.

Cabella scored a fine goal for Marseille against Paris Saint Germain on Sunday. The Frenchman carried the ball from inside his own half before unleashing a low drive beyond Kevin Trapp in the 25th minute to cancel out Zlatan Ibrahimovic's second-minute opener.

But Angel di Maria struck midway through the second half to give PSG the three points. Cabella played the whole game but Florian Thauvin was suspended following his red card against Montpellier.

Gilliead's goal for Carlisle came in Saturday's 2-0 League Two home win against Accrington Stanley and was a neat finish from 12 yards in the 38th minute.

It was his fourth goal for the Cumbrians and he played for 78 minutes before making way for Derek Asamoah.

Macaulay Gillesphey came on as a 16th minute substitute for Michael Raynes as Keith Curle's side kept a clean sheet.

Elsewhere in League Two, ten-man York City lost 2-0 to league leaders Northampton. Kyle Cameron played the full match while Lubo Satka made his Minstermen debut as a 58th-minute substitute, and was booked.

In League One, Adam Armstrong played the whole game and set up a goal for Jacob Murphy as Coventry drew 1-1 at Port Vale, but Gael Bigirimana was not involved.

Meanwhile Sammy Ameobi started for Cardiff City in the Championship, but was withdrawn in the 78th minute of a 0-0 home draw with MK Dons.

Haris Vuckic was an unused substitute for Wigan as they recorded an impressive 2-0 win at Sheffield United while Brendan Pearson watched Gateshead's 1-0 FA Trophy win against AFC Fylde from the bench.
